Review: Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 5: Rise of the Pirate God

“Bringing everything together and wrapping up the crazy tangle of outrageous loose ends that comically unraveled throughout the Tales of Monkey Island series, Telltale Games really pulled out the big guns to make Chapter 5: Rise of the Pirate God the grand finale that we’d hoped for. This high seas adventure full of voodoo, pirates, and zombies had us hooked from the get go, and anyone who’s followed along with each episode will find the last chapter offers a stellar ending to what can easily be considered some of Telltale’s best episodic work to date.”

Review: Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 4 – The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood

“Chapter 4: The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood brings the story back around and ties together the adventure with a mixture of both expected and unexpected plot twists. Having grown accustomed to a steady stream of humor and cleverness found in past episodes, the laugh-out-loud moments don’t seem to appear quite as frequently in this latest chapter, and it takes longer for the momentum to build. The good news is things eventually do pick up and the insanity that unfolds in the final moments of this stretch of the journey is worth muscling through to the end. You can expect the forthcoming last episode will be one worth waiting for.”

Review: Tales of Monkey Island Chpt. 2 – The Siege of Spinner Cay

“In his return debut, the “mighty pirate” Guybrush Threepwood managed to scuttle his own ship, infect his hand with demonic voodoo magic, get stranded on a turbulently windy island, misplace his swashbuckling wife Elaine, and inadvertently unleash a zombifying plague across the entire Caribbean. Not a bad way to make an entrance. After managing to salvage the situation as best as possible, we last left off with Guybrush watching Elaine sail away with his long-time nemesis, the newly un-cursed pirate LeChuck. His inability to pursue his mysteriously departing spouse stems from a sword being suddenly thrust in his face by an unexpected visitor, which is where we pick back up again.”

Review: Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1 – Launch of the Screaming Narwhal

“The early 90s can easily be considered the  golden age of PC adventure games, thanks in-part to the development efforts of a handful of game designers at LucasArts. Games like Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road, and The Secret of Monkey Island are among some of the best adventure titles of that time. Old-school PC gamers may recall with great fondness the humor-infused piratical shenanigans of the Monkey Island series in particular. Though many years have passes since the last island exploits of Guybrush Threepwood, a new Monkey Island adventure is finally upon us. It’s well worth the wait.”
