Prepare for another dose of Demo-licious! This time I dig into Mount Your Friends, a hilarious XBLIG about dudes climbing all over other dudes…and goats. I couldn’t stop laughing. Feature: The Indie Games of PAX East 2011

PAX East was a blast this year, and I spent a lot of time running around to track down indie booths amongst the fray of booming craziness. It’s really inspiring to see just how many excellent independent studios there were out there on the show floor with truly awesome games to demo. I wrote up a large feature on this for GameSpy, and though there wasn’t enough room to include all of the awesome indies I was able to scope out, here’s a bunch of the best ones I was able to go hands-on with.

Free Bytes: Mirage

“If you’ve ever had a freaky craving to suddenly fire shards of broken glass at weird bags of pulsating meat, then hoo boy do we have the right game for you. Many travels through the darkest, most obscure nether reaches of the freeware indie gaming world have unearthed some strange and beautiful projects, but scant few are as beautiful and creepy as Mirage. As far as we can tell, you play as a boy who fell in love with some girl, touched a magic mirror to peep her bodacious beauty, and then wind up cursed for being naughty. You’re suddenly trans”

Preview: Etrian Odyssey III

“There’s nothing that gets a true RPG geek all hot and bothered for some hardcore dungeon crawling action quite like having to draw our own map charts on virtual graph paper – okay, we’re kidding. But there is a certain hardcore-ness to it, as well as everything else about Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City. This third outing into nigh-endless, dark and dangerous catacombs doesn’t screw around much with the gameplay that made the first two games both brutally challenging and awesomely geeky. But it does offer some fresh goodies that get us good and wet. And not in the way you’re thinking of, pervert (seriously, why go there?).”

Review: Ranch Rush 2

“Even for those who love what they do, everyone needs a break from the daily grind of work now and then. If a tropical getaway sounds like a blast right now, you’re not alone. After getting her hands dirty building up a bustling farmer’s market from scratch in order to save the ailing flower nursery she works in Ranch Rush, Sara sets her sights on some fun in the sun. Though her island getaway in Ranch Rush 2 isn’t entirely a work-free vacation, a trip to warmer climates brings with it some excellent new opportunities for fun in this highly enjoyable sequel.”
