Review: Hector: Badge of Carnage – Ep 1

“If you’re someone who complains about point-and-click adventures being slow, plodding ordeals filled with uninteresting puzzles and boring characters, you might have to rethink your argument after playing Telltale Games’ first foray into adult oriented adventure-gaming fare. The debut episode of Hector: Badge of Carnage–adorned with the snarky subtitle “We Negotiate With Terrorists”–is something else entirely. And whether or not you have the stomach for this demented detective tale depends on your threshold for often naughty and utterly warped humor. Fishing around inside a feces-ridden toilet with a used condom, parlaying favors from morbidly obese hookers, and peddling fake drugs to young rave partygoers are only a few of the many seedy tasks you must undertake in the name of justice. Gross situations and intermittent lewdness may be the norm, but it’s the creative puzzles and memorable characters that make this adventure worthwhile.”

Review: Shadow of Destiny

“When it comes to death, most people don’t get a second chance, or a third, or a fourth. However, they also don’t have a creepy disembodied entity watching over them and offering “friendly” advice on how to best stay alive. Armed with this insightful info and a device that lets you go back in time, you have nothing to lose in Shadow of Destiny – aside from your life. Warping between the past and the present to change your fate in Konami’s time traveling adventure doesn’t change the fact it’s a dusty port of a decade-old mediocre PS2 game.”

Hands-On Preview: Avenue Flo

“Poor Flo, she always seems stuck picking up everyone else’s slack and single-handedly saving the day, yet she still manages this with a skip in her step and a cheerful smile. The greasy apron-adorned, hard working star of the Diner Dash series is about to embark on a whole new challenge-filled journey in her first adventure game. Gamezebo recently sat down for some hands-on time with Avenue Flo, and we’re pleased to report this new twist on the series is going to be a blast.”

Review: Memento Mori

“”Memento Mori” is a Latin phrase that reminds us we are indeed mortal, and the icy tendrils of death will inevitably come seeking us at some point in time to wring out the last drops of life remaining in our dried out meat husks. Playing Centauri Production’s Memento Mori on PC has a similar effect as the phrase it’s named after; it reminds you there are far more enjoyable and important things to be doing with your limited freetime among the living.”

Review: Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1 – Launch of the Screaming Narwhal

“The early 90s can easily be considered theĀ  golden age of PC adventure games, thanks in-part to the development efforts of a handful of game designers at LucasArts. Games like Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road, and The Secret of Monkey Island are among some of the best adventure titles of that time. Old-school PC gamers may recall with great fondness the humor-infused piratical shenanigans of the Monkey Island series in particular. Though many years have passes since the last island exploits of Guybrush Threepwood, a new Monkey Island adventure is finally upon us. It’s well worth the wait.”
