So a crazy thing happened yesterday evening. I launched a podcast! More specifically, a podcast about freelance writing, video game journalism, and making a living writing about geeky things. It’s called The Freelance Game, and I can’t wait for you to hear it! We can’t wait, actually. I’m co-hosting the show with long-time freelance comrade, Mac|Life editor, and Game Journo Guides book editor Andrew Hayward. We’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes for the past few months to get the first three episodes together to prep for launch, and we’re excited to announced that it’s all finally out!
Now that we’re live, you can listen to all three episodes right away by subscribing on iTunes or streaming episodes directly from our website! You can also find detailed show notes for each episode on the website, and a lengthy post explaining what the show is all about and why we’re doing it here.
Feel free to listen to the first three episodes in any order you choose, based-on what interests you the most! Though listening in order also has its benefits.
Episode One digs into our freelance origins and serves as an introduction to the show and the freelance nerds behind it (oh wait, that’s us).
Episode Two covers pitching, offering seven important tips to consider when pitching article ideas to editors.
Episode Three is our first guest interview, featuring our former freelance pal and current IGN editor Mitch Dyer. We have a fun an lively interview covering Mitch’s background that’s also packed with tips for freelancers.
All three episodes have a few additional segments. We spend a little time catching up with any freelance related projects or happenings in our own routines that may be of interest in a “freelance slice of life” kind of way. This often includes tips that relate to our own stories. We also answer questions from listeners, so feel free to send those in through the site if you have them!
If you’ve enjoyed any of my Game Journo Guide books, then I think you’ll LOVE this show. Or at least, that’s my hope. Either way, we’d be psyched if you could give it a listen! Let us know what you think! If you dig it, please consider subscribing and rating the podcast on iTunes! We’ve got an exciting year ahead, so stay tuned for lots of informative and entertaining content as we embark on this new adventure!
